The following chapters tell the tale of almost a dozen or more miracles of how God dealt with our debt.
It’s important to understand that, God who isn’t a respecter of persons, will do for you what he did for us. But it’s also critical for the reader to understand that these miracles didn’t come in a vaccum. They came as part of a three step process : stepping out in faith, deep repentance, and transformation of the mind. Specifically:
A. Stepping out by faith to take a risk and trust God, not money for provision. A way of saying this is making the statement : “God I don’t want to serve money, I want to serve You.” I beleive you at your word in Matthew 6 that “all these things” I need, you will provide. And not necessarily in the way I want or in the way the world thinks. My bills are not necessarily my needs. And my needs can be met with or without money.
B. Seeing our slavery (The Matrix) for what it is – the financial systems of this “world pulled over our eyes”. The rules of the world being you have to earn money to survive. That we will forever be a slave to debt and scratch and claw for the income to service it. Instead, we can beleive in the love of God – that he who created us shall sustain us (Psalm 80).
C. Repentance means to stop doing what you’re doing, to turn around and do the opposite. The opposite to being plugged into the Matrix is to say, I am no longer going to be a slave to debt and to the systems of debt. I no longer will turn to financial institutions to borrow money. I no longer care about my credit score. I am no longer a slave, but a child of God (Gal 4:7).
When this all came to a head for us as a family, when we ran out of money, when we exhausted our credit, the Lord gave us two clear directives in the midst of it :
- Don’t ask man (for money), pray and ask your heavenly Father (for provision)
- No more debt
Another way of understanding these two directives was like saying no more self effort in your own power, abilities and worldly wisdom. By adhering to these two directives, we were submitting to God tying both hands behind our back. They only way out was to trust God. He had to teach us new tricks.
Here are some of the amazing miracles we experienced and continue to experience :
1. Small Claim Withdrawn – our Accounting firm didn’t want to wait for us to repay them, so they sued us in small claims court. But God had a plan. Result : debt extinguished ; Lawsuit withdrawn.
2. $408k HELOC Settled for $1 – This was a two step miracle. Step One – letting go of a lawsuit filed against us for $408,000. How did we let go? We let it go to judgment and trusted that God had a plan. He did. Step one was an order to pay $35 a week. That’s right, for less money that what would it would have cost to simply retain counsel, the court ordered this modest payment. The Bonus, there was no post-judgment interest. Step two was when our attorney Jack Robinson two years later filed to open the judgment and dismiss for lack of standing. While it was summarily dismissed, we appealed. And during mediation with a retired appellate court judge, through a series of miracles that only God could have ordained, we settled the whole debt for $1. That’s a nearly half million dollar mortgage miracle.
3. $50k CC Debt Suit Withdrawn after Superior Court mediation with the judge.
4. $30k CC Debt statute of limitations past
5. $90k CC Debt abandoned after repeated failed court judgment executions
6. Bank improperly sued us three seperate times (illegal after 2nd time). Bank paid us $15k; $180k HELOC debt eliminated.
7. Cape House 15 year forclosure and sale miracles. Challenged banks standing in Federal Court regarding soldier sailor act. Friend unsolicited offered to purchase mortgage from bank.
8. Connecticut House Miracles – Nearly 17 years and still going. The Lord said “Not Judgement, Healing”
