Propane Miracle

One of the most egregious things that happened to us when we had no money was in summer of 2009 when we arrived back from the Cape to Connecticut, only to find out that the kitchen stove wasn’t working. OK, why? No gas was coming out. I was like – that’s weird? We had received a fill up not too long ago and paid for it in full, so I wonder what happened?

I made sure the lines were valved on in the basement and trace the lines back to the tank. There, sitting on top the 100 gallon tank was a large padlock shackling the valve closed. What??

So I call Hocon, our propane company. They told me, oh yes we put a lock on your tank because you didn’t pay us the tank rental fee. And if you don’t pay soon, we will come to the house shortly and remove the tank. But I protested, I already paid for the gas in the tank! And now I can’t used it? They didn’t care. That’s our policy they told me.

I asked to speak with a supervisor. I explained that I wouldn’t have paid to fill the tank if I had known you would do this to us? But, I can’t pay it right now. Can you please give us some mercy here? The answer was No.

So I felt the Lord say reach out to Gault. That’s the local Westport based, family run oil company we used for our heating oil. We also were a long time customer at our Church, St. Paul Westport.

I wondered if they sold propane and to my surprise the answer was, yes!
