After working for a couple years at Deutsche, an opportunity arose for my friend Scot and I to launch an new alternative investment strategy inside DB advisors that combined our investment banking, trading and research skills investing in public and private fund managing Deutsche’s own money, with the opportunity to spin out the effort and start own hedge fund.
As this door opened, and God clearly closed another door (would lead to a type of demonic enslavement to another internal senior management position), I began to dream what it would be like to have my own company. Prior to this, given where we lived and our financial “needs” I though surely I could only have my own company if I was already “financial secure.” In Wall Street terms that would amount to amassing multi-millions of dollars. Everyone had their “I’d quit if I had XX Millions of dollars.” Yet, that “number” always proved elusive. It was almost an illusion. And the number always got bigger the longer one’s career on Wall Street was.
Instead, this opportunity seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, that while I didn’t have a mountain of money saved up, the company was offering to foot the bill to start our own company and back it up with their own capital. To me, it was worth taking the risk.
The Lord essentially was sharing with me – yes, I am in this plan. That He was saying something to the effect of “Your Business is Your Ministry.”
