Once upon a time, not too long ago in Western Massachusetts in the Berkshire Mountains region, one resourceful store owner could no longer afford his rent in a time of recession, so he turned to the community for help. He decided to issue made-up “Deli Dollars”. Basically they were IOUs for future sandwiches to help fund the move to a less expensive place. It worked. He lived to make sandwiches another day and the community rejoiced with him.

In that way, people don’t even need money at all… They can make it up as they go using strength of relationship, character and reputation…
